On Menstrual Hygiene Day, we are committed to breaking the silence around periods, challenging the stigma often associated with menstruation, and raising
awareness about the importance of menstrual hygiene for women, girls, and anyone who menstruates worldwide. Menstrual Hygiene Day occurs on May 28
each year and provides an opportunity to highlight the significance of menstrual care and the issues faced by those who lack access to sanitary
products.
Access to sanitary products, safe and hygienic spaces to use them, and the right to manage menstruation without shame or stigma are crucial for anyone who menstruates. Unfortunately, this reality is not available to many. In India, for example, many young girls lack the necessary solutions to manage menstruation.
According to the latest census data, at least 636 million Indians lack
toilets, and 88% of women and girls use extremely unhygienic practices
such as old rags, ashes, and husk sand.
This crisis contributes to school dropouts, disease, and childhood malnutrition. Hence, the Girls Glory Project aims to provide toilets and WASH education to all
little girls to end this issue.
